About the job

Graduate Mixed Animal Veterinarian

Fur Life Vet Dubbo | Dubbo, NSW

Want to start your career in mixed practice, but you're not quite ready for tiny town life?

At Fur Life Vet Dubbo, you can have both.

With a caseload of approximately 70% companion animal and 30% large animal work, you can build strong foundations in small animal medicine and surgery while still getting out of the clinic and developing your large animal skills. And you get to do it while living in a thriving regional city with restaurants, cafes, parks and the amenities of a larger centre.

For a new graduate who wants variety in their veterinary career without giving up city conveniences, Dubbo offers a pretty appealing balance.

Why Dubbo?

One of the biggest advantages of starting your career at Fur Life Vet Dubbo is the opportunity to develop across both companion and large animal practice.

You'll be joining an established veterinary team, of 5 vets and a nursing and support team.

The clinic is well equipped for mixed practice and has two dedicated vehicles for large animal work.

The team is close knit and supportive, with a strong focus on its clients, patients and local community.

Rather than expecting you to know everything on day one, we want to help you build confidence, capability and independence as your experience grows.

A graduate position that gives you the best of both worlds

This role gives you the opportunity to build broad clinical foundations rather than deciding too early that you have to choose between companion and large animal practice.

With approximately 70% companion animal and 30% large animal work, you'll have the volume of small animal cases to develop your everyday consulting, medicine and surgical skills while still experiencing genuine large animal practice.

It's a great option for the graduate who wants to become a confident, well-rounded veterinarian and keep their options open as their career develops.

You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what type of vet you want to become. That's part of what your graduate year is for.

What you'll receive

  • Above award salary
  • Relocation assistance
  • One week paid study leave each year
  • Veterinary registration paid
  • $1,000 towards professional memberships and subscriptions
  • Structured graduate development and ongoing CPD
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Staff discounts on veterinary products and services
  • Retail, travel and gym discounts
  • Four weeks annual leave
  • Five days paid volunteer leave

Your working week

Fur Life Vet Dubbo operates a four-day working week for its veterinarians.

The clinic's large animal after hours work is supported by Vet Triage, providing triage before calls reach the veterinarian.

For a graduate wanting to experience mixed practice, it gives you the opportunity to develop confidence in an important part of regional veterinary medicine while having the support of an established team around you.

Life in Dubbo

One of the things that makes this opportunity different is the location.

Dubbo offers regional living without feeling like you're moving to a tiny country town. It's a larger regional centre with restaurants, cafes, parks and plenty of everyday amenities, while still giving you access to the lifestyle and veterinary opportunities that come with regional practice.

That makes it particularly appealing if you love the idea of mixed practice but still want the conveniences and social opportunities of living in a larger centre.

You can build relationships with your clients, become part of the local community and still have plenty happening outside work.

About you

We're looking for a graduate veterinarian who is excited by the idea of mixed practice and keen to learn.

You don't need to arrive as a confident large animal vet and accomplished small animal surgeon.

We are much more interested in someone who:

  • Genuinely wants to experience mixed animal practice
  • Enjoys being part of a team
  • Communicates well with clients and colleagues
  • Is willing to ask questions and learn
  • Wants to build strong companion animal skills while developing confidence with large animal work
  • Wants to become a capable, confident regional veterinarian

If you're enthusiastic, practical and prepared to get involved, we'll help you build the rest.

Ready to start your veterinary career?

If you want mixed practice but you're not quite ready to give up the conveniences of city life, Dubbo might be exactly the middle ground you've been looking for.

Build your companion animal skills. Get out of the clinic and experience large animal practice. Learn from an established veterinary team. And start your career in a regional city where you can build a life outside work as well.

Come to Dubbo and see where mixed practice can take you.

We'd love to hear from you. Apply with your cover letter and resume via the portal or contact Corinne at corinne.warnick@apiam.com.au or 0458 387 478 to discuss the role.
