Production Coordinator & Special Projects

About the job
At Boom Supersonic, we're building Superpower — a 42-megawatt industrial gas turbine designed to deliver high-efficiency power generation at scale. Our first prototype is being assembled right now and scheduled for first fire this year. The production facility you will work in is being built in parallel, across two shops and four shifts, so that when the prototype proves out we're ready to build the first production units without losing a day. At an operation moving at that pace, the difference between hitting the target and missing it often comes down to who's keeping track.
We're looking for a Production Coordinator who wants to be that person.
This isn't a data entry role. It isn't a scheduling role in the traditional sense either — there's no mature system waiting for you to log into. It's a connective tissue role. You'll be the person who knows the status of every active job across both our production facility and our R&D shop, who caught the thing that was about to slip before anyone else noticed, who made sure the machinist's concern reached the right engineer at the right time, and who built the tracking infrastructure that lets the Machining Manager spend less time chasing status and more time acting on it.
The two-shop context matters. Our production shop runs at high volume with a structured cadence — four shifts, 80+ CNC machines, tight schedule commitments. Our R&D shop is smaller, faster-moving, and less structured. These environments operate differently, and our coordination failures tend to happen at the handoff between them. Part of your job is making sure that handoff doesn't create surprises on either side.
We're building this coordination function as we go. Some structure exists, but it's inconsistent — and the person who takes this role will have real input into what it becomes. We're not looking for someone to inherit a playbook. We're looking for someone to write one.
Keep the shop moving. Build the systems that make it possible.
You’ll be the person who knows what is happening across both shops and makes sure nothing important falls through the cracks.
- Track active jobs, priorities, constraints, and risks across production and R&D.
- Coordinate work across multiple shifts, teams, machines, and facilities.
- Identify potential schedule slips and bottlenecks before they impact delivery.
- Connect machinists, engineers, tooling, quality, and leadership to resolve issues quickly.
- Manage shift handoffs and communication between the two shops.
- Build simple, effective tracking systems that give the team real-time visibility into production.
- Help the Machining Manager spend less time chasing status and more time making decisions.
Our production shop operates at high volume with 80+ CNC machines across four shifts. Our R&D shop is smaller, faster-moving, and less structured. Your job is to keep both moving while making sure the handoff between them doesn't create surprises.
Special Projects
The second half of the role is about building what doesn't exist yet.
Some projects are already clear:
- Establish tooling coordination and tracking.
- Build practical shop systems for travelers, labeling, documentation, and material staging.
- Support the selection and implementation of our ERP/MES/MRP systems.
- Develop processes that improve shop-floor visibility and execution.
You'll figure out what needs to happen, build the plan, drive it to completion, and leave behind something that works.
What We're Looking For
- 3–6 years of experience in production coordination, manufacturing operations, production support, or a similar hands-on manufacturing role.
- Experience coordinating work across multiple teams, shifts, or facilities.
- Experience building tracking systems and processes, not just using systems someone else created.
- Strong understanding of how a machine shop actually operates.
- Ability to work directly with machinists, engineers, and shop leadership.
- Strong written communication and follow-through.
- Comfort operating in an environment where the process isn't fully defined.
- Experience with ERP, MES, or MRP systems is a plus.
- CNC tooling, tool crib, or shop-floor systems experience is a plus.
- Startup, plant-launch, new-facility, or military logistics experience is highly valued.
This isn't a data-entry job or a traditional scheduling position.
We're not looking for someone who needs a defined list of projects or a mature system to manage.
We're looking for someone who sees a gap, builds the system to close it, and makes sure it works.
If you're the person who notices a job is going to slip before anyone else does, knows who needs to be involved, builds a better way to track it, and then moves on to the next problem—we want to talk to you.
