About the job

Company Overview

We are partnering with a custom smart home and audio video integration company based in Birmingham, AL, designing and installing home technology for local homeowners.

The company is growing and investing in their team. Leadership starts every project with what the homeowner wants to accomplish and chooses the right tools to deliver it, rather than building around a single brand. Customers regularly comment on how professional, patient, and helpful the technicians are, and that reputation is the standard for everyone who joins.

Why Join Us?

  • Variety in the Work: Every job is a new house, so you will move between Control4, Sonos, camera systems, lighting control, and networking instead of repeating one install. You will build full equipment racks and neat, serviceable setups for smaller projects, and pick up basic electrical work alongside a lead technician with an electrical background.
  • Every Day Is a School Day: That is the team's mantra. Even familiar installs bring a new home, a new product, or a new problem to solve, and you will always have the owner and the lead technician to work through it with.
  • A Path to Lead Technician: The owner is building toward a team of five or six people, and a technician with the aptitude can step into a lead role and run their own crew within a couple of years.
  • Training That Raises Your Pay: Industry training and certifications are part of the plan, and each new skill you add moves you toward the top of the pay range, which the owner expects you can reach within a year or two.
  • Small Team, Real Impact: You will work directly with the owner and the lead technician, and you can help shape the checklists and job processes as the team grows. The owner also makes a point of showing up with lunch and a thank-you after a demanding job.

Job Overview

The Smart Home Technician installs and supports smart home, audio video, camera, and network systems in homes, working alongside the lead technician and the owner. This is a hands-on, field-based role. One day may mean pulling wire in an attic, the next installing ceiling speakers or mounting a TV, and the next building a tidy network setup in a closet.

The goal is for you to be trusted with smaller jobs on your own within roughly 90 to 120 days. You do not need to arrive ready to go. Prior industry experience is welcome but not required.

What matters is aptitude, curiosity, and a real interest in learning the trade. The right person is adaptable, thinks critically and on their feet, and enjoys a workday that looks different from the last one. You take initiative, look for the next thing to do rather than waiting for direction, and treat the owner and lead technician as resources. You are professional and at ease in customers' homes, where making homeowners comfortable matters as much as the technical work.

Responsibilities

  • Pull and terminate low-voltage cable in new and existing homes, including work in attics, walls, and ceilings
  • Install ceiling speakers and other audio equipment, including Sonos, and mount TVs
  • Install and set up camera systems
  • Support lighting control installs alongside the lead technician
  • Build equipment racks, and set up clean, serviceable component and network gear (switch, router, and related equipment) for smaller projects where a full rack is not needed
  • Learn and work with Control4 and other control platforms, including Apple HomeKit
  • Learn basic electrical tasks, such as relocating an outlet for a new TV location, alongside the lead technician
  • Explain systems clearly and patiently to homeowners and represent the company professionally on every job
  • Work closely with the owner and lead technician to plan the best approach for each project
