Denver, CO · Full-time

About the job

Crusoe is on a mission to accelerate the abundance of energy and intelligence. As the only vertically integrated AI infrastructure company built from the ground up, we own and operate each layer of the stack — from electrons to tokens — to power the world's most ambitious AI workloads. When you join Crusoe, you join a team that is building the future, faster.

We're in the midst of the greatest industrial revolution of our time. The demand for AI compute is boundless, and power is a bottleneck. We're solving that — with an energy-first approach that makes AI infrastructure better for the world and faster for the people innovating with AI.

We're looking for problem-solving, opportunity-finding teammates with a sense of urgency, who believe in the scale of our ambition and thrive on a path not fully paved — people who want to grow their careers alongside a team of experts across energy, manufacturing, data center construction, and cloud services.

If you want to do the most meaningful work of your career, help our customers and partners advance their AI strategies, and be part of a high-performing team that believes in each other, come build with us at Crusoe.

About the Role

Crusoe is a vertically integrated AI infrastructure company. Crusoe sources power, manufactures modular data centers, builds hyperscale campuses, and operates its own cloud. Our ability to execute across this stack of capabilities requires Crusoe to coordinate closely with governments, utilities, communities, and other local stakeholders that impact both our social license to operate and control the permits, entitlements, and regulations that govern our operations. Every new campus and facility depends on a unique combination of permitting, interconnection, tax policy, workforce programs, and local trust to move forward. Every one of those also shapes our cost structure and our differentiation vis-a-vis competitors. Our ability to treat and understand each of these communities as a unique collaborator, while operating at increasing scale is critical to Crusoe’s ongoing growth and approach.

Policy and data center regulation is moving increasingly quickly in our markets, and our approach must constantly adapt with it. A state or country may rewrite its data center incentives or regulations, a utility commission may change large-load tariffs, a federal agency may issue a new program, or a community may push back on a project. Our team has to see it, understand what it means for the business, and help the broader organization act at scale.

The Strategic Initiatives and Government Operations role will work directly with the Senior Manager of Strategic Initiatives and the VP of Government Affairs within the Chief Strategy Officer’s organization. We turn policy, regulatory, and community realities into business decisions that improve the communities in which we operate, making Crusoe the preferred AI-infrastructure provider for our partners, customers, communities, and regulators. We ensure Crusoe's growth is both profitable and differentiated, and that our business delivers real social and environmental value wherever possible.

Your Mission

This role will have two core functions:

  • Help Crusoe scope, analyze, and execute on big, strategic bets with a clear view of the government, community, and commercial forces that decide whether they succeed.

  • Enable the broader Government Affairs team’s operations by connecting the dots; creating cross-functional workflows, products, and reports that bring insight to light and allow team members and executives to improve decision-making; and embedding AI across the team’s day-to-day operations

Across these two core functions, you will build quantitative and qualitative analysis, run initiatives, and turn ambiguous problems into structured plans and recommendations for leadership. You will work closely with the Senior Manager of Strategic Initiatives and the VP of Government Affairs while partnering closely with the commercial, energy, development, finance, and sustainability teams to ensure our initiatives support and are integrated into the company’s broader operations.

This will be a fast–paced, ambiguous role, requiring strong communication and prioritization of competing initiatives and responsibilities. Success in this role will entail a mixture of robust analysis, communication, and organization as well as pragmatic execution. It will be measured by whether your work helps Crusoe win the right projects, make better decisions, and build a business that is both profitable and good for the communities it serves.

What You'll Be Working On

Strategic bets: scope, analyze, and execute

  • Scope and frame high-priority strategic initiatives with the Senior Manager of Strategic Initiatives, from early hypothesis through execution and handoff to a permanent owner.

  • Analyze the government, regulatory, and community forces behind new markets, campuses, facilities, and initiatives: permitting, entitlements, interconnection, incentives, tax policy, housing, environment, and workforce programs, across states and countries.

  • Translate those forces into commercial implications: initiative / site economics, project timelines, incentive value, risk, and differentiation versus competitors.

  • Build models and scenario analyses to size opportunities, compare jurisdictions or programs, and test the assumptions behind strategic decisions.

  • Write memos and build decks for the VP of Government Affairs and the President & CSO's organization that lead with the recommendation, lay out the evidence, and name key uncertainties.

  • Help shape how Crusoe's business model stays profitable and differentiated, including how energy-first / sustainable development, community benefits, and environmental performance create commercial advantage.

Government Affairs operations: connect the dots

  • Design and run the cross-functional workflows that link Government Affairs with commercial, energy, development, finance, and sustainability teams, so policy and community insight reaches the people who need it, and visa-versa.

  • Build and maintain trackers and datasets of jurisdictions, regulations, programs, stakeholders, commitments, and milestones, giving the team and executives a current view of where Crusoe stands.

  • Create recurring internal reports and intelligence products that flag the policy and community developments that matter most and cut through the noise.

  • Prepare briefing materials, talking points, decks, and background memos for meetings with officials, utilities, community leaders, and partners.

  • Coordinate the operational side of engagement: timelines, deliverables, community commitments, and follow-through, so each community is treated as a unique collaborator even as Crusoe scales.

  • Help define, measure, and report the social, economic, and environmental value Crusoe creates, such as local jobs, tax base, grid support, and emissions outcomes.

Embedding AI across the team

  • Identify where AI can make the Government Affairs team faster and better, and build the workflows, templates, and tools to do it.

  • Use AI for research, policy monitoring, drafting, and synthesis, while verifying outputs against primary sources and applying sound judgment about where they fall short.

  • Document and train teammates on these workflows so they are adopted and reused, not one-off experiments.

  • Turn recurring research and intelligence needs into repeatable workflows using AI research tools, agents, APIs, data sources and light scripting.

  • Build systems that can monitor markets and companies at a scale that would be impossible through manual research alone.

  • Design AI workflows with trust and verification in mind. Maintain traceability to primary sources, test outputs for accuracy and understand where automated systems are likely to fail.

  • Build tools that augment judgment rather than replace it: systems that make analysts faster while preserving clear ownership of conclusions and recommendations.

  • Document and share workflows so they can be reused and improved across the GA team.

What You'll Bring to the Team

Background

  • 2 to 5 years in strategy or management consulting, government relations or public affairs, policy analysis, corporate strategy, market research, project finance, energy or infrastructure development, or a similarly analytical environment. A strong body of independent work can substitute.

  • Strong Excel skills. You build clean, well-structured models and trackers, and you can walk us through one you built.

  • Fluency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Hands-on AI fluency. You use Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or similar tools for real research, analysis, and drafting. You know how to guide them, interpret their outputs, and catch where they are wrong. You have built or improved a workflow with them and can show us.

  • Strong written and verbal communication. You write conclusion-first and can brief senior executives, technical teams, and external stakeholders with equal clarity.

  • Commercial judgment. You can reason about customers, costs, incentives, business models, and unit economics, and get up to speed quickly in an unfamiliar market, jurisdiction, or policy area.

  • Operational rigor. You have built processes, trackers, or reporting that other people relied on, and kept them accurate over time.

  • Analytical rigor. You evaluate sources, check your math, separate facts from assumptions, and can defend your reasoning.

  • 25-50% variable travel to Crusoe locations

Traits

  • Comfort with ambiguity. You thrive in fast-paced, vague environments and decide what matters most without waiting for a fully defined brief.

  • Prioritization. You juggle competing initiatives and requests, make clear trade-offs, and communicate them.

  • Structured thinking. You break messy problems into clear questions, options, and next steps.

  • Pragmatic execution. You balance robust analysis with getting things done, and know when an answer is good enough to act on.

  • Executive presence. You are comfortable presenting to senior leaders, and pushing back when the evidence supports it.

  • Judgment. You can distinguish what is interesting from what is important, and you use AI and other tools with sound judgment rather than blind trust.

  • Connector mindset. You see how work in one team affects another and build the bridges between them.

  • Mission orientation. You care about social and environmental impact and believe it strengthens, rather than competes with, a profitable business.

  • Collaboration and discretion. You work well across technical, commercial, and external stakeholders, and you handle sensitive information with care.

  • Ownership. You follow through on commitments and keep multiple workstreams moving at once.

  • Low ego, next person-up, and team-based approach. You lean into problems and eagerly take on the challenges that need to be solved, even when “it’s not in the job description”.

Bonus Points

  • Experience in government relations, public policy, or regulatory affairs, especially energy, utilities, land use, or economic development.

  • Domain exposure to AI compute, data centers, power and energy markets, or infrastructure development.

  • International policy or market experience.

  • Experience with community engagement, ESG or sustainability programs, or impact measurement.

  • Experience building dashboards, automations, or AI agents; Python, SQL, or AI coding tools are a plus.

What Success Looks Like

  • Strategic bets you support move from ambiguous idea to clear recommendation to executed result, with the government and community factors understood up front.

  • The Senior Manager of Strategic Initiatives, the VP of Government Affairs, and the President & CSO's organization rely on your analysis when making important decisions.

  • The Government Affairs team runs on clear, current trackers, reports, and workflows that you built, and policy or community changes that matter are caught early enough to act on.

  • Government Affairs insight flows smoothly to commercial, energy, development, finance, and sustainability teams, and their needs flow back.

  • AI is part of how the team works every day, saving meaningful time without compromising accuracy.

  • Your work connects government and impact considerations directly to commercial outcomes and Crusoe's business model.

What You Get

  • A seat on a small team that helps scope and guide Crusoe's biggest strategic bets, with exposure to senior-level executives.

  • A front-row view of where AI infrastructure, technology, energy, public policy, and communities meet.

  • Room to build: the trackers, models, reports, and AI workflows the team runs on.

  • Autonomy, and a team that values ownership.
