About the job

About the Role

At DoorDash we are redefining what it means to be a designer. We are building toward a team of makers, builders, and doers. Between 2005 and 2015, "web designer" became "product designer" and the scope widened. The same shift is happening now, as LLMs expand that scope again, toward strategy on one end and direct execution on the other. As a Principal Visual Designer, you'll practice this build-first way of working at the far end of that scope: moving from idea to shipped product quickly, at a level of craft and judgment that others on the team calibrate against.

You'll join Studio Central, a net-new Product Design team sitting at the intersection of product, brand, and innovation. Studio Central is a global team within Studio, DoorDash's Product Design organization, supporting DoorDash, Wolt, Deliveroo, and 7Rooms. We own how brand shows up in the product experience, partnering closely with Marketing and Product teams to shape cohesive, high-quality work and to help define the foundations, vision, and future state of design across our portfolio. Our work spans major brand moments, merchandising, and the systems that connect it all.

There's no finished playbook here yet, and you'll be one of the people writing it. Rather than working within structure, standards, and rituals someone else has set, you'll define them, for craft, for brand identity, for how the team codifies what "good" looks like, and you'll be looked to as the senior creative judgment other designers calibrate against as Studio Central's design leadership takes shape around you.

We operate in a hybrid working model, 1-2 days out of one of our Design Hubs, the rest working from home.

Your primary impact is vision and systems: setting the creative principles, visual systems, and craft standards that other designers across Studio Central build on, and making sure brand identity holds together as it moves from campaign to campaign, brand to brand, and app to app. Your secondary impact is revenue, in the same way: a cohesive, high-craft brand story across DoorDash, Wolt, Deliveroo, and 7Rooms is what makes product launches and in-product campaigns land, and what raises the ceiling on what Design can do across the org.

You're excited about this opportunity because you will...

  • Set design vision and strategy across our four internal brands, partnering with marketing, creative, and Product Design leadership to protect brand integrity, quality, and delight at every touchpoint
  • Build the design systems, component libraries, and AI-powered tooling your discipline runs on, and drive real adoption with clear documentation, hands-on onboarding, and iteration based on how teams actually use them
  • Set and defend the craft bar for brand work start to finish, from early concept through shipped execution, across teams that don't report to you
  • Provide creative and technical direction to the visual and motion designers in your pod, raising their work through hands-on review and art direction, not just documentation they read on their own
  • Hold a high standard for both design and code, ship production-ready assets rather than throwaway ones, and sharpen how the people around you think about what to build, why, and when it's ready
  • Codify brand standards as they emerge, translating bold creative bets into documented systems and a shared language the team can keep building on after you've moved to the next thing

We're excited about you because you have...

  • A portfolio that shows you can design and build world-class creative for B2B and consumer brand work, not just one or the other, and can solve design challenges of any size
  • A background in high-growth consumer tech, complex marketplace products, or platform/infrastructure teams, where you've built tools and systems that got adopted well beyond your own team
  • Prior experience in product design, brand design, marketing, or creative teams, shipping brand refreshes, brand guidelines, or comparable systemic work
  • A track record of bridging marketing and product: you've built visual languages that hold together across app, digital, print, and campaign without losing craft or consistency
  • Experience art directing designers, agencies, and multidisciplinary teams, and shipping brand guidelines that organizations and their partners actually adopt at scale
  • A body of work that shows exceptional craft in brand identity, digital experience, or communication design, and the creative conviction to keep raising the bar
